Wilma Ingram Fitzpatrick, 97 years young, received her call to heaven on Friday, May 26, 2023 following a long and fulfilling life. She was a lifelong resident of Mac Arthur, WV and had lived the last year of her life with her daughter in Lewisburg WV. She had recently moved to The Rocking Chair Assisted Living Home.
She was born in Mabscott, WV on November 13, 1925 to the late John William Ingram and Charlotte Stevenson Ingram. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Fitzpatrick, her only son, James Richard Fitzpatrick, her two sisters, Lila Porkorski and Nancy Irene Lilly, and several nephews. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a 1943 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended all of her high school class reunions. She attended Beckley College and was one of the first graduates of the Veterans Administration Hospital’s School for Certified Laboratory Technicians. She was a laboratory technician for over thirty-five years, working at Beckley Hospital, Raleigh General Hospital, Pinecrest Sanatorium and retiring at the age of seventy as the supervisor of the laboratory at the Raleigh County Health Center. She attended Crab Orchard Baptist Church and was a proud member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class for over fifty years.
She was devoted to her family and loved supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities. In her earlier days, she enjoyed fishing and attending equine competitions with her granddaughters. She was one of the biggest cheerleaders for every sporting or other events in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved.
She faced many challenges after the death of her husband at an early age, raising two children on her own, caretaker for her aging mother, and going back to school. She persevered with a fighting spirit, determination, and hard work. She was spunky and not afraid to voice her opinion. She was a woman of true grit.
