Elder William “Verne” Blankenship, 75, of Lester, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019. Born April 14, 1944 in Maben, WV, he was the son of the late Hiley Homer and Hazel Dixon Blankenship.
He was a former manager of Tomchins Furniture in Mullens. Verne loved gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Verne had a servant heart and his love in life was serving God.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Fain Blankenship; son, Jerry of Lester; daughter, Milena Belcher and husband Brian of Welch; grandchildren, Holly Blankenship of Beckley, Brianna Meade of Lester, Marissa Beckner of Beaver, Andrew Blankenship of Lester, Blake Meade of Lester, Jaime, Jenna and Kaylee Belcher all of Welch; great-granddaughter, Emery Beckner; brothers and sisters, Rodney Blankenship (Joan) of Las Vegas, Janice Lane (Claude) of Rural Retreat, VA, Shirley Phillips of Saulsville, June Cline (Edward) of Welch, Louise Adams of Coal City, Betty Kuppusami (Kuppy) of Bluefield, VA and Harold Blankenship (Gloria) of New Richmond.
Services will be 11 am Sunday, September 15, 2019 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 6-9 p.m. Saturday.
