Willa Ruth Greene

Willa Ruth Meadows Greene died November 9, 2015 following a long illness. She was born March 25, 1927 in Beckley, WV to Newton Boyd and Sylvia Pearl Meadows. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of three brothers and three sisters.
She was the wife of Homer Ward Greene for 48 years until his death in 1995. They were the parents of four children; Deborah Calhoun-Mitchell, Janet (Fred) Phillips, Sharon (Carter) Stump and Kevin (Nora) Greene. Other survivors include seven grandchildren; Scott (Tammy) Calhoun, Jr., Kristina Lynne (Edward) Darnell, Matthew (Meredith) Phillips, Christopher (Asa) Stump, Gloria (Dallas) Hylton, David (Sharon) Greene, Nikki (Isaac) Kirk and Blake Copenhaver; 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
During World War II she worked at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, VA. Later she worked as manager of The Piecegoods Shop in Beckley before choosing to be a fulltime homemaker. She attended Bethel FWB Church, Sprague FWB Church and the Calloway Heights Baptist Church.
Following her wishes Ruth will be cremated. Her ashes will be interred in the Greene Family Cemetery located at Flat Top.
A service to honor the life of Willa Ruth Greene will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2015 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. until time of service.
