Wanda Ora Elkin

October 9, 1922 — August 18, 2016

“Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Luke 1:45

Wanda Ora Lewis Elkin, age 93, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Bowers Hospice House, surrounded by her children. Born on October 9, 1922, in Summers County, she was the daughter of the late George Ray Lewis and Lillie O. Flint Lewis.

Mrs. Elkin was an employee of Wooddell’s Jewelry Store in Beckley for about 25 years. She was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Beckley. She loved the church and she loved the Lord.

She was an avid West Virginia University fan. She enjoyed flower gardening and feeding the birds, but it was her family that brought her the most joy. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and “Gammy”.

Mrs. Elkin was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, William G. (Bill) Elkin; a sister, Irma Rae Lowe; four brothers, Otho Flint Lewis, Cecil Carrington Lewis, Forrest Elmo Lewis, and her twin, Oris Rhonda Lewis.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, William G. (Bill) Elkin II and his wife Darlene of Cool Ridge; her daughter, Cynthia Elkin Rumberg and her husband, David, of Beckley; three grandchildren, Andrea Rumberg (Chris) McNemar, Heather Elkin (Jeff) Sturgill, and Dr. Brandon Rumberg; three great grandchildren, Natalie Michelle Sturgill, Michael Alexander McNemar, and Nathan Christopher McNemar. Several nieces, nephews, and sister-in-laws also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Heber Street, Beckley, WV, on August 22, 2016, at 1:00 PM, with Dr. Robert Stoddard and Rev. Rick Waller officiating. Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Heber Street, Beckley, WV 25801, or to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
