Wanda Lester

WANDA JEAN LESTER, 83, of Beckley, WV, formerly of Baileysville, WV, passed away at home, on Friday, January 8, 2016. Born on November 8, 1932, at Wyoming County, WV, she was a daughter of Alce and Oma Green Short.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Clarence Joseph (CJ) Lester, her precious son Wesley Gordon Lester, her sister Ora Short Cook, her brothers: Charley Short and Roy Short, her sisters-in-law: Elga Short and Mary Morgan, and her brothers-in-law: Ralph Cook, Earl Walls, Bill Beever, and Lacy Morgan.
Wanda attended Baileysville High School and Southern West Virginia Community College. She had been a member of the Baileysville Woman's Club and the Wyoming County Democratic Club. Wanda retired from the Wyoming County Board of Education. She was an extraordinary grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed reading, gardening, and scrapbooking; but, her true passion was interior design. She spent her final week directing home improvement projects; coordinating every detail. Wanda was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Stephanie Ann Oberly and husband, Jon, of Morgantown, WV and Myra Jean Ramirez and husband, Jesus, of Summersville, WV; two sisters: Mary Jo Walls and husband, Barney, of Beckley, WV and Edie Walls, of Boiling Springs Lake, NC; three grandchildren: Matthew Evans and wife, Deirdre, Jaclyn Hatfield, and Joshua Hatfield; three great-grandchildren: Demitria Evans, Eli Evans, and Jon Preston Evans; one step-grandson, Gavin Dickman; sisters-in-law: Agnes Beever and Jenny Short; a host of nieces and nephews; and her adopted family members: Thelma Cook Brooks and Michael/Carmella Browning.
The family would like to thank Wanda's friends, neighbors, and extended family for their help and support throughout her most recent illness; especially, Betsy Gonzalez, Joyce Waddell, Joe Short, and Joyce Vance.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, at 3:00 p.m., at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, WV. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
