Virginia “Ginger” Evans Cole was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Ginger passed away on February 27, 2022, at the age of 79 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
She was born to John W. Evans, Jr. and Virginia A. Gravely Evans on September 22, 1942. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Ginger attended West Virginia University before marrying the love of her life, Lonnie O. Cole. Ginger and Lonnie were married sixty years. Besides her husband, she is survived by two children, Stephen Cole (wife Carrie) and Chandra Cole Briers (husband Mike); three grandchildren, Madison Cole, Mary Beth Briers and John Briers; two sisters, Sherry Rose (husband Jerry) and Johnette Staton and many nieces and nephews.
Ginger loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals and sweets for her family. She was an avid tennis player, stunning clothing collector, perfectionist homemaker and an incredible piano player. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Beckley where she served as deaconess, played piano for children’s church and sang in the choir for many years.
Ginger reunited with her parents, John and Ginny Evans, and grandson, Stephen B. Cole, Jr. in heaven for a great reunion with family members and their Savior. The remaining family members will always be grateful for the earthly time they shared with Ginger. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
