Victor Gary Carroll, 74, of Daniels moved on from this life on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 with his family by his side.
Vic was born November 28, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia to Doyle and Esther Carroll. He served his country in the United States Army as a Green Beret. Vic was an outdoorsman and he found great joy fishing any water, especially the rivers and streams of West Virginia and Charleston, SC. An avid golfer, Vic was the owner of numerous hole-in-ones. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of West Virginia history, and spent hours exploring back roads and off- the-beaten-path places in the state. He was a gifted handyman, always eager to provide suggestions on how to improve a project. Vic was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley.
Vic was at his finest when with his family. He was a loving, devoted husband, and a dedicated mentor and supporter of his children and grandchildren.
Vic took great pride in his occupation. He served proudly for the Salvation Army as its Regional Resource Development Director. He obtained contributions and grants that have funded countless projects and initiatives to improve communities in Southern West Virginia and beyond.
Vic is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Carol; his children, Courtney McGinnis (Matt) of Beckley, Jon Carroll (Jessie) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren Charlotte, Gwynn, and Shepard McGinnis, Shelby and Coleman Carroll; brothers Rick Carroll (Joy) and Reese Carroll, sister-in law Judy Bliss, nieces, nephews, countless co-workers and friends.
Friends may visit the family at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley, Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 10:30-11:00am. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am at the church, with Very Rev. Paul Wharton, V.F. officiating. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army of Beckley in Vic’s memory. Arrangements made by Calfee Funeral Home.
