Silea Amelia Luchini

May 7, 1919 — February 23, 2010

Silea Amelia Luchini, 90, of Beckley, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, in her home. She was born May 7, 1919, in Dogna, Italy. She was the daughter of the late Severino and Margaret Bosia Cappellari. She came to West Virginia because her father built roads throughout West Virginia. Silea graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1937. She studied in Europe and attended West Virginia University and Saint Mary’s of the Springs in Ohio and majored in French. She taught French and Spanish at several local high schools. She married Joseph S. Luchini on December 27, 1946 and lived in Beckley.
She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by six children, Catherine Gerson of Boston, MA, Joseph Luchini of Clifton, VA, Dr. Phillip Luchini of Banford, CT, Dr. Michael Luchini of Branford, CT, Maria Perfetto of Charlotte, NC, and Margaret Nicholas of Birmingham, AL; sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that left the world quietly in her sleep. She was 90 years old and still looking forward to the next West Virginia game, to see her garden bloom in the Spring, to the next occasion when she would see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a great lover of animals and was sharing her home happily with four dogs, a cat, and a pond full of gold fish. She was a homemaker beyond compare. She made clothes, knit sweaters, cut up fabric to make rugs, and always had something delicious coming out of the oven. She tended a vegetable garden, orchard and flower garden which were regular features in the local newspaper. She took up tennis is mid-life and played into her early 70’s.
Most of all she was a proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be loved and missed forever by all of her family and friends.
The funeral liturgy will be conducted by Father Joshua Stevens at 10:00 a.m, Friday, February 26, 2010, at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church.
