Salvatore Carl Auricchio, 88, of Beckley, passed from this life on January 17, 2019 at the Beckley VAMC to be eternally united with his Lord and Savior.
Carl was born May 24, 1930 in Hiawatha, WV, the son of the late Salvatore M. Auricchio and Annie Clisso Montrosse Auricchio.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Barbara DeFranicasco of Italy, Jospehine Wright, Mallie Compton, Rose Mostello and Beulah Montrosse; brothers, Benny, John, Angelo, Frank, Joe, Tony, Dominick and Mike and a great-granddaughter, Rileigh.
He was a member of Cranberry Baptist Church where he served as trustee and past board member. He was a 60 year member of the UMWA, member of VFW, American Legion, Masons and Shriners. His favorite pastime was gardening and he loved sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. He also enjoyed being at his camp on the Greenbrier River with all of his good friends. He served in the US Army and was a decorated Korean War veteran.
Carl is survived by his wife Carolyn and sons Kevin and Allen and his wife Suzanne; grandchildren, Austin, whom he lovingly called Shorty Boy and his wife Brenna, Ashleigh and her husbasnd Jeremy and a great-grandson, Jax, who was his little buddy, whom he lovingly nicknamed MoJo, as well as nieces and nephews. He also shared a special friendship with his pastor Roger, whom he loved like a son, and his wife Marcia. He also loved all his church family.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at the VA Medical Center and Hospice of Southern WV.
Services will be 3 pm Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Cranberry Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 6-8 pm. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service.
Pallbearers will be Austin Bragg, Jeremy Turner, Ty Thomas, Kenny Riley, Bobby Barley, Fred Lovell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Riley and Junior Gunnoe.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cranberry Baptist Church.
