Robert Vincent Lowery, 83, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 following a long illness. Born July 1, 1929 in Mabscott, WV, he was the son of the late Arthur and Violet Mandoline Lowery. Bob was owner of Lowery’s Shoe Repair and Sporting Goods. He was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Beckley Moose Lodge. Bob was the WV State Boxing Commissioner for 15 years. He was involved in amateur and professional boxing and coached youth sports in the community for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Lowery.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Richmond Lowery; daughter, Marisa Lowery of Beckley; sons, Matt and Maris Lowery of Beckley, Myron Lowery and wife Dawn of Ft. Mill, SC and Mario Lowery and wife Adair of Morganton, NC; grandchildren, Zanna and Ella Lowery of Ft. Mill, SC and Sallie McCurry of Morganton, NC; brother, Bill Lowery of Pittsburgh, PA and sister, Phyllis Lowery of Lowell, IN.
A funeral liturgy will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church with Monsignor Samuel Sacus officiating. A rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Calfee Funeral Home, 800 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley where a scripture prayer service will be held at 8:00 p.m. led by Rev. Mr. Don Wise.
Pallbearers will be Matt Lowery, Maris Lowery, Myron Lowery, Mario Lowery, Eric Thomas and Larry Cook.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, 614 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801
