Robert (Bobby) Garlie Ward of Daniels, West Virginia, age 91, was welcomed into the
loving arms of his Savior on November 9, 2022. Bobby was born on March 6, 1931 and was a
lifelong resident of Raleigh County. He was a devoted husband for 70 years to the love of his
life, Betty. He was a loving father, grandfather, and uncle. Bobby touched the hearts of
numerous friends and family throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry
French and Mary Etta Ward, brothers; Harold and William (Bill), sisters; Edna, Nellie, Thelma,
Dare, Betty Jo, and Jean.
Bobby served his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a carpenter, then
later taught building trades with the Raleigh County school system until his retirement. Bobby
received the Lord as his personal Savior at the age of 26. His love for God was evident by his
exemplary christian character and lifelong Godly example. Bobby enjoyed spending time
playing games with family and friends. He could often be found in his workshop keeping his
hands busy skillfully building items of wood cherished by many. He was an avid motorcycle
enthusiast, riding his motorcycle till the age of 80, where his biking travels took him to places
from Quebec to Texas.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Betty Arnn Ward, sons, Donnie and Beverly Ward of Cool
Ridge, WV, Paige and Sharon Ward of Beckley, WV, and Marvin and Barbara Ward of Travelers
Rest, SC, Grandchildren: Kristi and Roy Richmond, Nicholas and Jaime Ward, Robbie Ward,
Bethanie and Jon Dorsey, Laura and David Sizemore, Courtney and Michael Purvis, Alex and
Holly Ward, Justin Ward, Hunter and Ally Ward, and Emileigh and Garrett Jordan. Sisters,
Marietta Gray and Patty Yeager, Brothers, Buddy Freeman, Kenny Ward, and Tommy Ward.
17 Great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held at the Crow Baptist Church in Beaver, West
Virginia on Sunday, November 13th with Pastor Rod Baker and former Pastor Dennis Burks
officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Nicholas, Robbie, Alex, Justin and Hunter Ward and
nephew: Charles Lee Hicks. Visitation is from 1:30 to 3:00 with the funeral service immediately
following. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern
West Virginia.
