Richard A. Wilcox, 66, of Beckley, WV went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Raleigh General Hospital. His death was unexpected and the result of a sudden illness.
Born May 30, 1948 in Portland, Maine, Richard was the son of the late Clifford Augustus and Beulah (Gregg) Wilcox.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Garrey Gregg.
A retired minister, after serving in the ministry for 40 years, Richard enjoyed attending church, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He loved being outdoors, planting trees, landscaping, and working with his hands on various building projects. Richard was an expert carpenter who enjoyed using his gift to help others with various projects. He was a gifted speaker and singer and loved sharing messages and singing at church whenever he had the opportunity. Richard loved to be the entertainer in a group and especially enjoyed making his grandchildren laugh. A bargain hunter, he loved to search for items he knew his loved ones would enjoy and then surprise them with various gifts.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Patricia Tomblin Wilcox, one daughter, Cheryl Spak and her husband, Gerald Spak II of Masontown, PA, one son, Jason and his wife Christie Wilcox of Beckley, WV. He also had five grandchildren: Seth Bland, Hannah Bland, Payden Policz, Jada Wilcox, Jett Wilcox, and one expected great grandchild, Baby Knight. Richard had one sister, Venna Wilcox, of Fryeburg, Maine; one brother, Clifford Wilcox Jr. and a sister in law, Dolly of Buxton Maine. He was fond of his two pet dogs, Rascal and Sissy.
Viewing will be held at Cross Point Church of God, located at 110 Crescent Road, Beckley, WV 25801 on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Tuesday, October 14, at 1:00pm with Pastor Jason Lowe officiating and special speakers, Reverend Robert Day and Reverend David Meadows. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
