Phyllis Mae Hylton

Phyllis Mae Hylton, 83, of Sophia, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022.

Born July 31, 1938 at Farley Hill, WV, she was the daughter of the late Leighton Caris and Ethel May Darnell Farley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Bobbie D. Hunt and Jack Hylton and her brother, Leighton Farley, Jr.

Phyllis was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where she is loving known as “Mamaw Phyllis” to all. She loved serving the Lord through song, loved her BYKOTA Sunday School Class and being an Awana leader.  She also spent decades working with the children’s Wee Singers and in more recent years took on the caring for the shut ins at the church.

Phyllis loved family and especially her grandchildren.  Nothing brought more joy to her life than a house full of grandchildren. Whether it was a ball game, a birthday or a holiday, the family always centered on Mamaw Phyllis as being the head cheerleader, cake baker or host for dinner.

However, there is one thing in her life that she will be remembered for beyond anything else-  her love of Jesus and her intentional spreading of the Good News of salvation through Christ. 

She is survived by sons, Randy Hunt (Lisa), Jeff Hunt (Cristina); step children, Kerri Lilly (John), Kim Hylton, Troy Hylton; 10 grandchildren/step grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren/step great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Farley (Helen) and Bill Farley.

Services will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022 at Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Hunt officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Gideons International.
