Norma Jean Gunter, 83, of Shady Spring passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018. Born January 29, 1935 on Maxwell Hill, near Beckley, WV, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Sarah Wilson Arthur.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie O. Gunter, Jr. and brother David Arthur.
She was a member of Beckley First Baptist Church, Women’s Circle Group, the American Baptist Women’s Ministries and White Cross Ministries.
Survivors include her daughters, Kelley Gunter of Clayton, WV and Marcia Gabor and her husband Steve of West Jefferson, OH; grandchildren, Robert, Charlie, Clayton Blankenship and Lauren Gabor; great grandchildren, Chloe, Kira and Jordan Blankenship and John Williams; sisters, Carrie Wray of Beckley and Gail Bartlett of Wilkes-Barre, PA and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Norma was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Each day she was a role model as she lived out her faith. She had a heart for missions and served in Nicaragua, Costa Rico, Hatti, and Mexico. She was known for her love of travel, reading, writing, cooking, sewing, gardening and birds.
Norma was a ’52 graduate of WWHS, Bluefield State College, she earned her degree of Master in Science from Marshall University. Norma was an RN at Beckley Hospital and in the oncology department at the Beckley VAMC.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Beckley First Baptist Church, 422 Neville St. with Pastor Doc Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the church.
