Nina Virginia Blair, 95, of Crab Orchard, went to her eternal home on Friday, October 25, 2013, just one month shy of her 96th birthday. Born November 25, 1917 in Danbury, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Wesley and Jennie Gray Rhodes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, William Hollis Rhodes, Posey E. Rhodes; sister, Josie Rhodes Stevens; special sister-in-law, Ellen Lackey Rhodes and step-son, Bruce “Buddy” Taylor.
Nina graduated from Lawsonville High School in 1937 and moved to Crab Orchard in the late 1930’s. She owned and operated Nina’s Market in Crab Orchard for many years. Nina was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church and attended the Fellowship Sunday school class as her health permitted. She was also an active member of Circle #1.
Survivors include her son, Donald Blair of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Mrs. Christopher (Sandra) Graham of Beckley, Mrs. Dale (Joanna) Fitzpatrick, II of Crab Orchard, Ralph Bailey of Long Branch, WV, Gregory Taylor of Daniels, WV; great-grandchildren, Dakota Blankenship, Sidney Graham, Destiny Blankenship, Alden Fitzpatrick, II, Alex Fitzpatrick, Tyler Bailey, Hannah Bailey and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Sisson and Pastor Jennie Leake Hemrick officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to service on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Chris Graham, Dale Fitzpatrick, Pete Graham, Butch Harper, Greg Taylor and Barry Stevens.
