Nancy “Teetie” Hamilton Lewis Haley, age 69, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Scott Lewis Jr. and Nancy Pat Lewis-Smith. She is survived by her two daughters Kate Marie Hatfield (husband Eric Hatfield) and Ann Hamilton Donegan (husband Tom Donegan) both of Beckley WV; two sisters Langhorne Abrams (husband David Abrams) of Beckley WV and Mary Charles Sutphin (husband Kem Sutphin) of Raleigh NC; five grandchildren, Ansley Donegan, Evan Donegan, Brayden Donegan, John Hamilton Sanders, and Jared Donegan; and nieces Rachel Hopkins, Sarah Abrams, Mary Kemple Henderson, and Rebecca Holt.
A lifelong resident of Beckley WV, Nancy was born on September 10, 1940. Nancy graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and Stephens College. She worked as a substitute teacher for Raleigh County Schools and she also taught pre-school at St. Stephen’s Day School.
Nancy was a volunteer for Beckley Renaissance and Hospice of Southern West Virginia. She was involved with Daughters of Revolution (DAR), Beckley Junior Women’s Club, a local garden club and book club.
Nancy enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren who she loved greatly. She also enjoyed long walks on Woodlawn Avenue with her dog, Gustaf. She loved her children and devoted all her time to making them happy.
Funeral services will be 11:00am at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 with Fr. Eric Miller officiating. Friends may call at Calfee Funeral Home on Monday, July 19, 2010 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Pallbearers will be Eric Hatfield, Tom Donegan, David Abrams, Kem Sutphin, Jerry Haley and Beldon Lafferty.
