Mildred Kathleen Cox, 86, of Beckley, passed away Monday, January 9, 2012 at Bowers Hospice House.
Born April 14, 1925 at Lillybrook, WV, she was the daughter of the late James and Lois Griffith Whitely. Mildred was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Arlie V. Cox and a son-in-law, Ronnie Akers.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Cox and wife Alice of Beckley; four daughters, Freda Akers of Beckley, Kathy Acord and husband Ronnie of Beckley, Nancy Cochran and husband Joey of Daniels, Anita Spicer and husband Jeff of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Christy Meadows, Sherry Scott, Julie Bragg, Amanda Cox, Lauren Bradley, Amy Osgood, Jason Spicer, Shannon Spicer, Jacob Cochran, Katie Cochran, David Acord, Richard Acord; great grandchildren, Ashlee Scott, Bradley Scott, Rachel Bragg, Raegan Bradley, Trey Spicer, Hailey Spicer, Carter Bradley; sister, Barbara Tackett of Ft. Myers, FL; special cousin, Ross Whitely of VA and longtime caregiver, Mary Moore.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Memorial Baptist Church with pastor Paul Blizzard and Dr. Charles Bright officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jason Spicer, Shannon Spicer, Jacob Cochran and David Acord.
