Mildred Gross Lilly of Shady Spring, departed for her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
Born January 19, 1927 Mildred was the daughter of the late Bill and Opal Gross of Beaver. She was the second of nine children. Mildred graduated from the Raleigh General School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and worked most of her career at Raleigh General Hospital. She loved her profession and was dedicated to helping others.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Lilly and sister, Athlene (Tootsie) Jolly.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Eddie Lilly and wife, Margaret of Shady Spring and David Lilly also of Shady Spring. In addition she had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
Others who will lovingly remember Mildred include brothers Kenneth Gross and wife, Ina, Ardith (Wink) Gross and wife, Margaret, Sam Gross and wife, Virginia, Tom Gross and wife, Helen (Cookie); along with sisters Ann Bailey and husband, Fred, Corene (Coe) Phillips and Naomi (Na) Williams and husband, Luen; and a host of nieces, nephews, special friends, neighbors and the caring staff of The Villages of Greystone and Hospice Home Care.
Mildred was a member of The Open Door Church of Shady Spring. She loved and served her Lord well. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, sewing, playing games, bowling and especially cooking for others.
A celebration of Mildred’s life will be Saturday, March 15, 2014 , at 2:00 p.m., at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley with the Rev. Donald (Doc) Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Worley Cemetery at Jumping Branch. Family and friends may call prior to the service Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
