Maxine Patrick Trail, age 98, passed away July 20 at the Raleigh General Hospital. She was born December 16, 1912, in Netty, Morgan County, KY, to Allie and Harlan Lykins.Maxine attended Berea College for 6 years, from the 9th grade through her sophomore year of college. She graduated from Concord College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught elementary grades in Raleigh County for 29 years. She was a member of the Methodist Temple, United Methodist Women, Raleigh County and West Virginia Retired Teacher Associations.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Sherman C. Trail; daughter, Patricia Peters; brothers, Rex, J.C., and Courtney Lykins; and sisters, Cleo Morris and Leola Adams.Survivors include her son, Dr. Julian Trail and his companion Gloria Ireland; Sharon and husband, Roy H. Casto; son-in-law Clyde Peters; grandchildren, Julian Trail Jr., Mark Trail and wife Nicole, Karen Trail Martin, James Peters and wife Tammy, Teresa Peters Parks and husband Sean, Dr. John Casto and wife Maxine, Dr. Glen Casto and wife Heidi, and Dr. Jefferson Casto and wife Lourdes; and Dr. Lori Casto Palermo and husband William; sister, Dolores Newkirk and husband Ray; great-grandchildren, Robert and Harris Trail, Andrew Martin, Dejah and Kasea Peters, Courtney and Alaina Parks, John Eric and Alex Casto, Grant, Jackson and David Casto, Maxwell and Maxine Casto; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maxine’s caregivers, Kelsi Boggess, Susan Szoke Barbara Adkins, Alexis Adkins, and are also among the survivors.The funeral service will be at 8:00 pm on Friday, July 22 at Calfee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Her grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sherman C.
