Mary Retha Fink Price

Mary Retha Fink Price, 93, of Beckley, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2009 at her home. A lifelong resident of Raleigh County, she was born April 3, 1916 at Sprague. She was the daughter of the late Leonard Jackson and Viola Bolen Fink. The granddaughter of the late John F. & Sara Elizabeth Cole Bolen and Alexander “Etch” & Mary Jane Thompson Fink. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Carl W. Price, two brothers; John Pierce Fink, Eldridge L. Fink, and a sister Eileen Fink Backus. Mrs. Price was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Price was a member of the First Baptist Church Friendship class and the Lydia Light Circle. She was a member and Past President of the Flowering Hills Garden Club, where she won numerous awards in flower shows. She was also a past member of the Beckley Woman’s Club. She retired from Beckley Medical Arts having worked for the late Dr. F.L. Banks, MD and Dr. George A. Miller, MD.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Karen Eileen Price, Beckley, sisters-in-law; Nellie Fink, Stevenson Ranch, CA, Janet Price Quick, Lewisburg and Edith Price Bobbit of Fayetteville, a special niece, Janet Backus Lester of Grove City, OH and nephew Martin “Pete” Backus of Pikeville, KY and many caring and loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Phillip Smith officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 22, 2009 between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service on Wednesday. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
