Mary Patricia Blair 76 of Sophia, WV went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus on July 15, 2022, where she is now walking the streets of gold.
Born July 22, 1945, in Danbury, NC she was the daughter of the late Carl Vance Mabe and Mary Magdalene Mabe.
Mary was a devout Christian and could be found in church anytime the doors were open. Rain or shine, she would be seen walking to the house of the Lord or be fortunate enough to be given a ride by fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Many of Mary’s days were filled at The Raleigh County Commission on Aging, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends.
Mary loved her family more than anything. Her family is a testimony of how the Lord worked and had a plan for her life. She was blessed with two daughters and six grandchildren. When it came to her family, Mary was selfless and giving. She was always ready to spend time with her family wherever that may be. However, anyone that knew her knew one of her favorite ways to spend time was going out to eat. She loved to laugh and her smile was contagious. She brought happiness and joy to all of those around her. Just as Jesus loves the little children, Mary loved all children and enjoyed playing with them.
Although Mary endured trying times and struggles in her life, she is an example of how God’s love and mercy can overcome physical limitations of this world. Her life was living proof of the power of HIS Will.
Her family would like to recognize and thank her special friends at the Sophia Police Department and Sophia Fire Departments, for always going over and beyond their civil duties to assist and care for Mary when she was in need. Also, to her fellow prayer warrior and sister in Christ, Joyce Saunders.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Mrs. Bo (Sandra) Parks of Crab Orchard, Mrs. Dale (Joanna) Fitzpatrick II, of Crab Orchard. Grandchildren: Dakota Blankenship, Destiny “Bessie” Blankenship, Evan Parks, Alden Fitzpatrick III, Alex Fitzpatrick, and Ania Fitzpatrick. The father of her children: Donald Gray Blair.
A celebration of a heavenly homecoming will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2022, at Calfee Funeral Home with Brother Hoy Fitzwater and Brother Nick White officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Calfee Funeral Home.
