Mary Alice Helen Thewes

Mary Alice “Helen” Tonelli Thewes of Daniels, passed away November 10, 2013.
Born in Beckley she was the daughter of the late Enrico and Maddalena Squerzi Tonelli. Besides her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her husband A.A. “Honey” Thewes; brothers, Frank “Dorino”, Okey C. and Gino Tonelli and sisters, Edith Tonelli Fussaro and Alice Tonelli.
Helen was a graduate of Marshall University and also attended the University of Pittsburgh. She worked for many years as a chemist, medical technician and microbiologist for the Raleigh County Health Department and also as a coal miner.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth A. Thewes of Daniels; sister, Elizabeth C. Wheeler of Beckley; special nieces and nephews, Kathy Wheeler, Joan Swatzyna, Paul Wheeler and John Wheeler and numerous other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A special appreciation is extended to Hospice of Southern West Virginia nurses Jenny, Diane, Lorrie and Michelle and Medical Director Dr. Gleynora J. Gilbhrighde for their professional care and support for Helen during her illness.
A memorial mass will be held Friday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 614 S. Oakwood Ave. in Beckley with Father Pen officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.
