Mrs. File was a 1934 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, attended Science Hill Academy in Shelbyville, KY, and was a 1939 graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, VA. She played and taught the violin in her youth and was recruited to play violin by the WV Symphony. She enjoyed many family beach vacations in South Carolina and family picnics at Flat Top Lake. For many years she enjoyed a weekly bridge game with her friends and was a member of the Highland Garden Club. Always interested in local history, Mrs. File was proud to be a direct descendant of some of the earliest settlers of Raleigh County, including Pyrrhus McGinnis and Martha Jarrell Davis. She was a member of the United Methodist Temple and attended First Christian Church.
