Marie (Sissy) Sigmond, 85, of Beckley, formerly of Kopperston, WV, passed away February 6, 2011, at 3:35 a.m. at the Bowers Hospice House after a long illness. Born January 23, 1926 in Giles, WV, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Frances Messer Holbrook. Marie was a member of Cross Point Church of God in Beckley and a former member of the First Church of God in Oceana, WV. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas, Jr. and Elisha Holbrook.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 65 years, Mancel V. Sigmond; four brothers, Harold Holbrook and wife Mary, Charles Holbrook and wife Kikue, Floyde Holbrook and wife June, Ray Holbrook and wife Patty; four sisters, Mable Simmons and husband the late Calvin Simmons, Bodie Haynes and husband Newell, Jannett Cook and husband Vondie Cook, Sr. and Annette Callison and husband Harold.
A Victory Celebration Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, 800 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV with Pastor Vondie Cook, II and Rev. Vondie Cook, Sr. officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.
