Marguerite Word St Clair went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2011. Marguerite was born in Winding Gulf, West Virginia on April 18, 1920. She was the daughter of James Walker Word and Dora Tolley Word. Marguerite was raised on Oakwood Avenue in Beckley, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Beckley College, Marshall University and Florida Atlantic University, with degrees in Home Economics, Art and Psychology.
Marguerite taught public school in Raleigh County, West Virginia and Broward County, Florida. After retiring from teaching in Florida, Marguerite and her late husband, Samuel Dixon St Clair, divided their time between Alderson, West Virginia and Vero Beach, Florida. Marguerite had two passions, her artwork and helping others. Marguerite's artwork focused on Florida wildlife and southern West Virginia historic landmarks. Marguerite was a devout christian and was a member of the Alderson Presbyterian Church. Those who knew Marguerite know that she has been joyfully united with her savior.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Dixon St Clair, her beloved brother, J. W. Word, Jr., and her sister, Helen Louise Word. She is survived by her two sons, James D. St Clair (Risa) of Singapore and William C. St. Clair (Shirley) of Sweet Springs, West Virginia; five grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “EE,” Justin R. St Clair (Allison) of Peterstown, West Virginia, Dr. S. Mitchell St Clair (Robin) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Sarah St Clair Mills (Brad) of Durham, North Carolina, Sydney Tolley St Clair of San Antonio, Texas and Gainya St Clair of Miami, Florida; and five great-grandchildren Rosslyn, Lilly, Sophia, Elinor and Samuel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2012 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lannie Howe officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services on Friday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
