Margaret Lyndell (Hope) Gosnell, 92, formerly of Coal City, WV, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 in Shelby, Alabama.
Margaret was of the Baptist faith, and attended Coal City Freewill Baptist Church for many years. She was a homemaker for most of her life, and worked as a daycare provider for several years. Margaret enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook. Her family fondly remembers Sunday dinners after church around her table.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Irene Wooten Hope of Fireco, her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Libby) Gosnell, her beloved son, Richard Allen Gosnell of Coal City, and her beloved grandson, Robert Gosnell. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Hope, Johnny Hope, Esther Hope, and Sally Mills.
Those left to cherish Margaret’s memory are her children, Harold Michael (Sherry) Gosnell of Dameron, Susie (Emanuel) Tankersley of Fredericksburg, VA, Gary (Rita) Gosnell of Crab Orchard, Robert (Teresa) Gosnell of Shelby, AL, John Gosnell of Beckley, and daughter-in-law Sherry Gosnell of Coal City. She will be dearly missed by 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren, with 4 more on the way. Margaret also leaves behind two brothers, Vincent (Pat) Hope of Georgia and Bill (Janie) Hope of Tennessee, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, from 6pm to 8pm at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, WV. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 7 at 11am, with her son, Harold M. Gosnell, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Those honored to be her pallbearers include Michael Gosnell, Jeremy Gosnell, Christopher Gosnell, Stephen Gosnell, Zachary Setliff, Greg Perkins, and Tad Damron. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Perkins, Brier Damron, Matthew Davis and Nathan Davis.
The family would like to thank Bob and Teresa Gosnell, with whom Margaret made her home for the last several years, for their loving care and devotion to our mother and grandmother.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Affinity Hospice of Alabama, her hospice nurse Robin Lawrence, and her two caretakers, Suzat Mitchell and Star Crawford, all of whom took excellent care of Margaret in her final days.
