Margaret Ann Flanagan went home to our Lord on October 23, 2022. She was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1930 in Tams, WV to Susie and John Hreha. While she played clarinet in the band at Mark Twain Highschool, she met the love of her life, the captain of the football team. "Jimmy" and “Marge” exchanged wedding vows on September 1, 1951 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley, WV, then moved next door to her parents in Beckley where they had 2 children, Patty Sue and James “Bo”. The Flanagans enjoyed dancing, especially the polka and spending time with friends and family on the river. Their romance lasted nearly 40 years until “Jimmy” left this world too soon. Margaret spent the next 20 years as a volunteer at Raleigh General Hospital, traveling, and missing her husband every day. Margaret had been a resident of Harper Mills Care Center for the last 10 years where Patty could visit frequently. Mom’s last words to us were “I’m okay”. We know she is in Heaven dancing the polka with her beloved husband.
She is preceded in death by her husband James Edward Flanagan, parents, 2 brothers Mike and John Rahall, and a granddaughter Amy Dawn Hylton.
Celebrating their mom’s memory are her daughter Patricia “Patty” Hylton and her children Andy, Travis, Zachary, Charlie and their dad Larry, as well as her son James and wife Cheryl, and their sons Jimmy, Kyle and Matthew and several great grandchildren. Margaret was especially close to her sister in law, Barbara Flanagan Ripley, who was married to her husband’s brother, Charlie.
Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 pm. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Calfee Funeral Home.
