Margaret Ann Hale Lilly was born in Beckley on September 10, 1948 and left this life on June 8, 2020. She was a devoted Christian and is now at peace with her Savior.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Joy and Nathan Hale. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Eddie Lilly. And only daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Rick Johnson of Fayetteville, WV. Along with a brother, Jimmy (Teresa) Hale of Jacksonville, FL. Plus numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends she loved as her family.
Margaret graduated from Shady Spring High School and Concord College. She was a beloved 2nd Grade Teacher at Daniels Elementary for 35 years and continued to substitute teach, as needed, even after retirement. She was committed to excellence in education and leaves a fond legacy for students and colleagues alike.
Following her retirement from teaching, Margaret owned and operated Greenbrier Landing, also known as The Catfish Hole, in Pence Springs. There she delighted in hosting families who gathered for weekly fishing tournaments and fun in the outdoors.
Margaret enjoyed reading, playing games with family and friends, traveling, cooking for others, spending time at her camp in Monroe County and tending her flower gardens. She loved her dogs (and grand-dogs), enjoying their companionship throughout her life. Most of all, Margaret enjoyed worship and fellowship as a member of The Open Door Church in Shady Spring, where she served the Lord and others faithfully.
Margaret was devoted to her family with steadfast loyalty and was fiercely proud of them. She had a heart of compassion and modeled grace to all she met. Her quiet, gentle spirit always brought encouragement to others. Margaret had a tremendous burden for family and friends in need of salvation and considered it her privilege to pray without ceasing for those who are lost.
Although our hearts are shattered, we are truly humbled by the outpouring of love and support during this tragic time. We bestow special thanks and gratitude to Aunt Naomi, Cousins Beebee and Basil, friends Kay, Jenny and Betty, friend and neighbor Amy, and Cousin Curtis for their kindness to Margaret through the years.
A memorial tribute and celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Monday, June 15, at The Open Door Church in Shady Spring with Pastor Don Kelly officiating and music by family friend, Martha Hutchinson. Friends and family may visit from 1pm - 3pm with the memorial service beginning at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Brian's Safehouse at 368 Dearing Drive, Mt. Hope WV 25880. This was one of Margaret's favorite ministries.
Arrangements are made by Calfee Funeral Home of Beckley.
