Mancel V. Sigmond, 89, of Beckley, WV, formerly of Kopperston, WV, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV, after a short illness. Born August 13, 1922, at Poca, WV, he was the son of the late Fred and Avie Sigmond. He was a member of the Cross Point Church of God in Beckley, WV, and a life member of the VFW. Mancel proudly served his country during WW II in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
He was a retired Mine Foreman having worked for the Eastern Associated Coal Corporation in Kopperston, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Marie Holbrook Sigmond; one brother, Ancil Sigmond of Reno, Nevada; and one sister, Encil Dean of Beckley, WV.
Those left to cherish his memory include Jannett Cook (Vondie Cook, Sr.) sister-in-law and caregiver; nephew Vondie Cook, II (Teresa); nieces Loretta Dean Ernst and Brenda Dean. He is also survived by several other nephews and nieces. His great nephew, Chance Cook and his great nieces, Courtney and Tyra Cook were very dear to him. He referred to them as his grandchildren.
A Victory Celebration Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 14, 2012, at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, 800 South Oakwood Avenue, Beckley, WV with Pastor Vondie Cook, II, and Rev. Vondie Cook, Sr. officiating. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
