Mabel Haley Brown, 96, of Lester, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in the Charles County Nursing Home in LaPlata, MD from a blood disease illness while under the care of Hospice of Charles County. Born March 24, 1912 at maple Meadow, WV, she was the daughter of the late Kyle Haley and Pearl Davis Haley Riffe.
She lived all her life in Raleigh County until the last years she had made her home with her daughter Sharon and her husband W.A. Giammerino in LaPlata, MD. Mabel was a homemaker, loved gardening, working in her flowers, quilting and crocheting. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd (Pete) Brown (1966); sons, Willard Brown (1980), Denver Brown (2004); daughter, Edith Mae Brown (1994), grandsons, Harold (Danny) Brown (1972), Larry Steven Brown (1979), James Edward Brown (1986), Steven Brown (2006), Carlos Brown (2008) and by a sister, Ruth Haley Cochran (1966).
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Giammerino, LaPlata, MD; son, Roscoe Brown, Lester, WV; eight grandchildren, Johnny Mack Brown, Ballard, WV, Darrel Brown, Glen Daniel, WV, Diane Brown Loggins, Amigo, WV, Douglas Brown, laPlata, MD, Lloyd B. Brown, Lothian, MD, Terry Brown Nelson, Morningside, MD, Bill Giammerino, Charlotte Hall, MD, Kimberly Giammerino Wheeler, LaPlata, MD; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Two nieces, Eunice O’Neal, Lester, WV, Flora Whitenack, Middle River, MD; nephew, Tom Cochran, Mesa, AZ.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Snuffer officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Family and friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Douglas Brown, Johnny Mack Brown, Darrel Brown, Bill Giammerino and J.R. Wheeler.
