Lucille Frisbee Conelly, 97, of Charleston, formerly of Beckley, passed away peacefully at the Arthur B. Hodges Center on Saturday, January 28, following a short illness.
She was born on December 21, 1919, in Asheville, NC, the daughter of the late Ellis Francis Frisbee and Annie Green Frisbee. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hubbard Conelly, her sisters, Mildred Frisbee and Dorothy (Ted) Dobson, her brothers, Jesse (Dorothy) Frisbee, and Joe (Freda) Frisbee.
She is survived by her only daughter, Gayle (Joe) Manchin, three grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Bresch, Joseph (Traci) Manchin IV, and Brooke (Marshall) Roberts and ten beautiful great-grandchildren: Joey, Sophie, and Carly Manchin, Kelsey Kirby, Madeline, Chloe, and Jack Bresch, Vivian, Beaux and Knox Roberts. In addition, she has many loving nieces and nephews with whom she shared time and love through the years. Also, a special recognition is due to Bonnie Smith who provided much support and love to her for over 30 years.
Lucille graduated from Business School in Asheville, NC and worked for the city of Asheville until she married Carl Conelly and moved to West Virginia. After finally settling in Beckley, she maintained her household, loved working in her large yard, and managed the books for Conelly Trucking, Inc. for over 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley, and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Through the years, she was a member of the Order of the eastern Star and DAR. Her later years were highlighted by annual trips to Myrtle Beach with close family and friends, and delightful meals out in Charleston with her special friends who enjoyed her special sense of wit and humor.
The family would like to extend appreciation to CAMC General for their immediate care, and a special tribute to the Staff and Administration of Arthur B. Hodges Center for their many kindnesses, compassionate care and support. Lucille was a resident of the Edgewood Summit Complex since 2010 where she made many friends over those years.

Lucille will be remembered as a loving mother, “grandmuzzy”, aunt, and loyal friend. It only seems appropriate to end her obituary with the scripture from II Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course: I have kept the faith.” May she forever rest in peace.
Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.
