Katherine Kennedy Klaus

September 14, 1925 — May 1, 2009

Katherine “Kitty” Kennedy Klaus, 83, of Beckley, went to be with the Lord, Friday, May 1, 2009 after a long illness. Born in Vanwood, WV on September 14, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Kennedy. She was a long time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Catholic daughters, American Legion Auxillary and the WV State Women’s Bowling Association. She was also involved with the Adult Literacy Program. Katherine worked in Maryland with two of her sisters at an airplane factory during WW II. After returning to Beckley she worked at Klaus Office Equipment, W.T. Grants, J.C. Penney and Saks Jewelers as well as being a mother and homemaker. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers; Ed and Ray and by sisters; Madeline, Helen and Lib.
Left to cherish her memory are Karl J. “Jack” Klaus, Jr., the father of her eight children, her sister, Patricia Hedrick and husband Randall of Elmwood, TN, six daughters; Catherine (Kathy) Richmond and her husband Roger of Daniels, WV, their two daughters, Kris and Mandy and her husband Scot Cantley, Carolyn (Karen) Goodwin and her husband Bill of Beckley, WV, their two sons, William and his wife Anissa and J.D., Jackie Spicer of Jacksonville, FL and her two children, Karl Paul and Cassandra, Martha O’Hare and her husband Patrick of West Palm Beach, FL, Beth Oglesby and her husband Dan of Virginia Beach, VA, their two sons, Jeremy and Jeff and his wife Afton and Charlotte Klaus of Beckley, WV and her two children Katie and her husband Michael Afant and Andrew, two sons; Karl Klaus, III and his wife Pat of Midway, WV, and Michael Klaus and his wife Vicky of New Bern, NC, ten great-grandchildren, adopted son, Thomas Arthur Weeks, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
A funeral liturgy will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Father Perry Malacaman officiating. A rite of committal will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery. Friends may call at the Calfee Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Monday where a rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. led by Deacon Jay Ziolkowski.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
