Karen Fay Sturgill Parker, 78, of Crab Orchard, WV went peacefully into the arms of the Lord January 19, 2016 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Karen was born September 1, 1937 in McAlpin, WV and was a daughter of the late Vernon O. and Lottie E. Deck Sturgill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Wayne Parker, brother Lowell Sturgill and sister Audrey Schneberger.
Karen was a Baptist by faith and a member of the Sophia Freewill Baptist Church. She loved bird watching, squirrel feeding, flower gardening, and traveling and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
Karen is survived by daughter Lorie G. Parker Sisson and husband Michael of Crab Orchard, WV; son Kevin W. Parker of Richmond, VA, his daughters Denise, Christine and Amanda Parker, Kevin’s fianc Lori Kross and her daughter Bethany Kross of Richmond, VA; son Phillip D. Parker of Crab Orchard, WV; brothers: Jim Sturgill and wife Vicki of Crab Orchard, WV, Bill Sturgill and wife Ruth of Ronceverte, WV, Keith Sturgill and wife Leslie of Chester, VA; sisters, Patricia Franks and husband Dave of Birmingham, AL, Martha Moomaw and husband John of Sophia, WV, Louella Lilly and husband Gary of Lewisburg, WV; brother-in-law Gerry Schneberger of Venice, FL; sister-in-law Patty Jo Sturgill of Ashburn, VA and many nieces and nephews.
Karen’s daughter and son are extremely thankful for their brother Phillip who lived with and provided wonderful care for their mom.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Michael Sisson officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
