Judith Lynne Almond

Judith Lynne (Judi) Almond, 78, died February 8, 2025, surrounded by family at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley, WV after a long illness. Judi was born May 4, 1946, in Beckley, WV to John W. “Bill” and Evelyn Belcher Almond, both who preceded her in death. Judi was a 1964 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, WV. Judi was of the Christian Faith.

Judi truly loved her family, friends and especially “the kids.” Even though she never had kids of her own, Judi was a longtime volunteer for the Crab Orchard Elementary School. Judi volunteered for many “kids” related functions including the “Kids Classic” held in Beckley. She was very proud of serving on the Raleigh County Board of Education for four years. She had a distinguished career as a public servant. She served, by appointment by the Governor, on the State Workforce Development Council; she also was a member serving on the executive board of WV Community and Technical College System; and she was the Regional coordinator for WV Mentoring program sponsored by WV Department of Military Affairs and Commissioner’s Advisory Board to Juvenile Services for the WV Department of Corrections.

Judi worked in the food industry including managing two favorite local restaurants (Pizza Inn and Ponderosa) until becoming disabled.

Judi is survived by siblings William D. (John) and wife Jane; Jeffrey and wife Pat; Jennifer Milam and husband Barry and Joyce Almond and partner George Fore. She was known affectionately as Silly Aunt Judi to her nephews John Cook-Almond, Paul Almond and Justin Milam and nieces Elain Milam, Aryn Henry and Kelsey Almond; and great-nieces and nephews Warren Edwards, Ania Mitchell, Michaleigh Adkins, Dylan Henry, Lizzi Adkins, Rhyia Mitchell, Trinity Mitchell, Ella Almond, Dakota Henry, Dannie Henry, Kennedi Mitchell, Silas Almond, Solomon Almond and Shiloh Almond. She is also survived by a special Uncle Donnie Almond and special Aunts Carol Bailey and Carol Ann Almond and a slew of wonderful cousins too numerous to mention.   

A memorial service will be held on March 2, 2025, beginning at 2:00 pm at the Jones Memorial Baptist, 401 Allen Ave, Beckley, WV. Fellowship will follow downstairs in the church immediately following the service.   The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care of Judi at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.   In lieu of flowers the family would request donations be sent to Bowers Hospice House  and/or American Heart or Cancer Associations.
