Joyce Jean Sabatino

Joyce Jean McGinnis Sabatino, aged 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Beckley, West Virginia on August 30, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and her little dogs, Betsy Rose, Jasper, Peanut, DeeDee, Popsicle, Levi and Skyler who gave her much comfort and joy. 

Joyce was born March 13, 1942 at Dry Creek, West Virginia to the late Alfred “Jack” and Helen Marie Cook McGinnis.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Roger McGinnis of Dry Creek, a sister, Betty Rose McGinnis Cox of Gastonia, North Carolina, and her only granddaughter, Autumn Marie Johnson of Wasilla, Alaska. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Sabatino Johnson (Michael) of Wasilla, Alaska and Mitzi Sabatino White (James) of Beckley, a son, Ronald Sabatino (Sabre) of Pahrump, Nevada, and two grandsons, Alexander and Brendan Johnson, a brother James Ross McGinnis (Joyce) of Huntington, West Virginia, a sister, Jackie McGinnis Whitley of Oceana, West Virginia and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce attended Marsh Fork High School at Montcoal, West Virginia. She lived and worked many years in Farmington, Connecticut where she raised her three children and supported them as a hairdresser and later as an employee of New England Aircraft. After retirement, she returned to West Virginia to help care for her mother. Joyce will always be remembered for her devotion to her parents, children, grandchildren and the many, many animals she rescued and cared for over the years.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services. Visitation will be private with only immediate family and cremation to follow. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia and her medical team at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
