Joseph Herbert Matherly

Joseph Herbert Matherly, 89, of Flat Top, went home to be with his Savior Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Born April 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Zechariah and Effie Matherly.

Joseph was a main line motorman in the coal industry. He loved gardening, fishing and hunting but his family was always his number one priority. He was a founding and 39 year member of Victory Baptist Church.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary Grace Brammer Matherly; children, Gary Matherly of Crab Orchard, Larry Matherly and wife Susan of Glen Morgan, Dennis Matherly of Prosperity, Sharon Young and husband George of Beckley, Randall Matherly and wife Julia of Flat Top, Cathi Stump and husband Jerry of Glen Morgan; sister, Blanche Hurst and husband Dave; sisters-in-law, Mary Matherly and Pat Matherly; brother-in-law and life-long friend James Roy Lilly; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Victory Baptist Church with Dr. Rollan Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am until service time on Saturday.
