John Logan Persinger, II, 78, of Mabscott died at his residence on Friday, April 3, 2009 following a long illness. Born October 22, 1930 at Clifftop, WV, he was the son of the late John Logan and Stella Jane Black Persinger. He was a retired coal miner and contractor. John was a U.S. Marine veteran and had been a resident of Raleigh County for the past fifty five years. He was preceded in death by brothers; Homer Dalton, James Perry, Richard Carlton, Alfred Andrew and Lawrence Whitney Persinger, and sisters; Elizabeth Beatrice (Libby) Stull, Lydahoe Pearl (Hodie) Hunt, Lillian Lynn Cooper and Eloise Persinger. The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern WV and Fonice and Helen Murdock and Eddie Murdock for a very special gift.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Minta Plumley Hicks Persinger whom he married on August 7, 1953, sons; Mike Hicks of Mt. Hope, Carlos Hicks and wife Sue of Mt. Hope, John Cameron Persinger and wife Lisa of Shady Spring, daughters; Geraldine Gray of Mt. Hope and Stella Lambert of Mabscott, fifteen grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Young, Rev. Tom Waddell and Rev. Donna Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Sunday. Oak Hill VFW Post 3110 will conduct military grave side honors.
Pallbearers will be Don Powers, Larry Ward, Randy Goodson, Larry Goodson and Bob Young.
