John Keith Shumate

John “Keith” Shumate, 44, of Maple Meadow, WV, died January 15, 2022, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.
He is survived by the love of his life, Courtney, and son David Glenn. He is the son of James and Vonnie Shumate of Maple Meadow. He is also survived by a brother, Jim (Debbie) and a sister, Schaunna, several nieces, nephews, and grandmother, Barbara Cook.
Keith was preceded in death by his grandparents Glenn and Jean Shumate and grandfather, Glen Cook.
Keith was a retired Major in the U.S. Army completing multiple tours in Iraq. After leaving service he worked for the TSA in Arlington, Virginia. Keith loved camping, spending time with his family, working on his land, and anything on wheels. He was a member of Akers Baptist Church and loved helping others.
A private family service officiated by Pastor Ardeth Bailey will be held on his land where he will be buried.
“My land is where I find my peace”, he would say. So that is where he will rest.
