John Julius Rahall, Sr., 88, of Daniels, passed away Friday July 9, 2010, at his home following a short illness surrounded by his family. Born March 17, 1922 in Tams, WV, John was the son of the late John (Hreha) Rahall and Susie Vargo Rahall. He was a retired electrician from West Moreland Coal Company and a member of Saint Francis deSales Catholic Church. John served with the US Marine Corps during WWII. He was a member of the Beckley Moose Lodge, and a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother Michael Rahall and brother-in-law James Flanagan.
Survivors include his wife Mary Alice Rahall, a daughter; Gwen Skrabak of Hagerstown, MD; two sons David Rahall, and wife Barbara of Charlotte, NC and John Rahall, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Princeton, one sister Margaret Flanagan of Beckley and sister-in-laws Eileen Rahall, and Nevada Walter. Eleven grandchildren, Wendi Brewster, Heath Skrabak, Brian Rahall, Kristopher Rahall, Nathan Skrabak, Andrea Rahall, Rebecca Skrabak, Jonathan Skrabak, Sean Rahall, Stephen Rahall and Tabatha Carter, and five great grandchildren, Samantha, Blake, Laken, Robert and Addilyn.
A funeral liturgy will be held Tuesday July 13, 2010 at 10 a.m., at Saint Francis deSales Catholic Church with Father Josh Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Mausoleum B. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Calfee Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. by Deacon Don Wise.
Grandsons Heath, Brian, Kristopher, Nathan, Jonathan, Sean and Stephen will serve as pallbearers.
