Jo Jean Helm

Jo Jean Helm, 88 passed away following a short illness December 12, 2015 at Bowers Hospice House. Born in Stone, KY, January 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Anna Sweeney Helm.
Miss Helm had been a resident of Pickaway, Monroe County, 1936-1990, transitioning to Shady Spring and Covington, VA. She was a 1945 graduate of Union High School and a 1952 graduate of Concord College with a B.S. in Education. She taught elementary school in Squire, Skygusky and Premier before returning to Monroe County. During the fifties and sixties she worked at B.F. Goodrich Factory in Union, WV, The Greenbrier as a ticket checker, and as a caregiver for family members. She attended Fairview Christian Church, teaching Sunday School and Bible School and was a member of Beckley Disciples of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1961 and 1990; brothers, Mowyer Lester and J.A. (Jack) Helm, Jr.; sisters, Geneva H. Hodges and Elizabeth H. Huff; two nephews, Walter Helm and Bob Hodges.
Jean is survived by one sister, Yvonne H. Leach (Eugene), 8 nephews; 2 nieces and respective families.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery in Keenan, WV.
