Jimmy D. Beckett, 79 of Crab Orchard, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN, surrounded by his family.
Born May 15, 1933 in Fitzpatrick, he was the son of the late Clair Enon Beckett and Moda Meadows Beckett.
Jimmy was a member of the Crab Orchard Church for 68 years and also attended the Little Bethel Chapel. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Jimmy and his three brothers worked together as commercial plasterers and also as commercial insulators for several years. He later was employed by Westmoreland Coal Company at Eccles as a preparation plant center control operator. His last employment was as a welder for Arnold’s Welding in Crab Orchard. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his two sisters, Gertrude and JoAnn and three brothers, Edward, Raymond and Mason.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Reba Jane; one daughter, Libby Solari and her husband Rick of Beaver; one son, Philip and his wife Tammie of Oak Ridge, TN and his grandchildren, Becca, Olivia and Sarah Hedrick, Patrick Solari of Beaver and Morgan and Daniel Beckett of Oak Ridge, TN. He loved his family dearly and cherished the happy times they had together.
Jimmy is also survived by three brothers, Dempsey and wife Judy, Wesley and wife Phyllis and William and wife Patty all of Crab Orchard.
Pallbearers will be Dean Beckett, Joey Beckett, Stephen Beckett, Mike Beckett, Dean Calhoun, Roger Hunter, Doug Hunter and Jeff Hunter, all nephews of Jimmy.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Calfee Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 pm at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Calhoun officiating. Special Music will be provided by Howie McKinney of Roanoke, VA. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
