Jessie Shrewsbury

Jessie Estes Shrewsbury, 85, of Shady Spring, WV, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Born November 1, 1926 in Alpoca, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Effie Lester Estes. Jessie was a former sales representative for Home Interior. She was an avid reader of her Bible and a member of the Herndon Freewill Baptist Church. She loved her church family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Shrewsbury; son, Jesse Shrewsbury; grandson, Jesse Shrewsbury, Jr. and a brother, Patrick Estes.

She is survived by a grandson Brian Smith whom she called “My Baby” of Beckley; daughter, Carolyn Chernutan and husband Frank of Shady Spring; sons, Virgil Shrewsbury and wife Lila, Gary Shrewsbury and wife Gloria both of Bud, WV; granddaughter and adopted daughter, Katrina Bennett and husband Steven of Shady Spring; grandchildren, Kip Church of Oakland Park, FL, Bryan Church of High Point, NC, Gerald Shrewsbury of AL, Tammy Whitehead and Scott Shrewsbury and wife Lois of NC, Andrea Saunders and husband Chris of Beckley, Heather Runyon and husband Ryan of Princeton, Virgil Shrewsbury, III of Bud, WV, , Allison Steele of Beckley, Cameron Shrewsbury and wife Beatrice of Shady Spring, Jessica Shrewsbury of Galax, VA; 15 great-grandchildren,; brother, Robert “Bob” Estes and wife Mary Ellen of Bud, WV; numerous nieces and nephews as well as her church family and many close friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Herndon Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor William O. Tolliver officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may gather with the family from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.
