Jeanette Rees Weeks

July 10, 1920 — June 8, 2011

Jeanette, or simply Grandma, as she was known to many, was a fiercely independent southern lady who met adversity or illness with stubborn tenacity and classy flair. She believed in family, and taught us all that when you are pelted by lemons, you deal with it and make some delicious lemonade. She lived through the Great Depression which, of course, left an indelible impression. Because of those experiences, she instilled in all of us the importance of a good work ethic. She taught us to take pride in our work, to live a good and simple life, and not to be flashy, but to live within one’s means and be grateful for the little things in life. She taught us to never be afraid to take a chance, and to live our lives to the fullest, but to always be prepared. She taught us to act like a lady or a gentleman, to be strong, to be your own person, to vote because it’s your civic duty, and to always have a pot of vegetable soup or half runner green beans ready to feed to anyone who came in the door. She was a good woman, loved dearly by her family, and will be greatly missed.
