Janet Lynn Norman

Janet Lynn St. Clair Norman, 74, of Beckley, WV passed away on March 3, 2023, after a long battle with Muscular Dystrophy under hospice care. She was born in Beckley, WV, September 14, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Elmer J. St. Clair and Viola Hartsog St. Clair. She was married to Stan Norman on April 18, 1969; they were married for 54 years.

Janet retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education having taught at Woodrow Wilson High School, where she was the Lassie Coach (dance team), 1990 Class Sponsor, and a Special Education teacher. She wanted all kids to know they were important, and they could contribute to this world no matter what challenges they faced. She was a member of the Beckley Community United Methodist Church for over 60 years. As a member she served the Lamp Lighters Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Dorothy Hinzman Women’s Circle, and the United Methodist Choir. She made very dear friends at her church in which she truly cherished. She loved the Lord her God and was a true witness to how her Savior’s Love, Jesus Christ, gave her strength to face each challenge she went through with grace, patience, and kindness, knowing he was with her every step of the way. Her last message in life was to treat others with kindness for that’s all we have, and it is free to give to everyone.  In addition to her church family, she was a part of the Chaminade Music Club in Beckley, WV, Mountaineer Republican Women where she served as a chairperson for 2 years, she also served on the Raleigh County Executive Committee for the Republican party, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She also volunteered at Helping Hands and Carpenters Corner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Terry St. Clair and sister-in-law, Betty St. Clair. Surviving family left to cherish her memory is her husband, Stan Norman, children Phillip and Michelle Norman, of Beckley, WV; daughter, Amanda and Brian Ford of Beckley, WV; grandchildren, Noah and Emma Norman, Bryce and Kendall Ford all of Beckley, WV; nephews and nieces, Shane St. Clair of Jumping Branch, WV, Paige Marshall of Pulaski, VA, Darren Elmore, Jane Elmore of Spencer, WV.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Beckley Community United Methodist Church with Rev. Betsy M. Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Calfee Cemetery at Mt. Tabor. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. We wish to thank the home health care workers from Central Well Home Amedisys, Central Well Home Health Care, as well as Dr. Kelly Pittsenbarger and Staff, Dr. Kabbara, Dr. Boustani, and Raleigh General Hospital nurses and other healthcare workers for all the outstanding care.
