Jane Miller Sims Wood, 67, of Grandview went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2023, with her family by her side. Jane was born on March 29, 1955, in Hinton, West Virginia, to the late Joe A. and Betty M. Sims and was preceded in death by her sister Betty Jo Pugh and father-in-law, Kermit H. Wood.
Jane is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jeffrey R. Wood; mother-in-law, Ann Wood of Grandview; sisters, Susan Allen (Donald) and Myra Anderson (Jay) of Beckley; sister-in-law, Grace Miller Trester (Jake) of Wagoner, OK; nephews, Daniel Lilly (Susan) of Candler, NC, Joe Allen of Cleveland, OH, and Joey Trester (Angel) of Wagoner, OK; nieces, Paige Hawkins (Andy) of Harrisonburg, VA and Catherine Sutton (Chris) of Eugene, OR; great nieces, Ashley Childers (Michael) and Rachael Lilly of Canton, NC; great nephews, Hayden Clyde of Fairmont, WV, Miller and Drew Hawkins of Harrisonburg, VA; her cat Lucky and numerous other family members and friends.
Jane was a 1972 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, retired after 26 years as a dental assistant for Dr. Kyle M. Jarrell and was a member of the Grandview Christian Church. Jane and Jeff enjoyed raising and showing rabbits for many years and served as Superintendents of the Rabbit Barn at the WV State Fair. Jane loved watching the birds and deer at their farm in Grandview, fishing at their beautiful pond and vacationing at the beach.
On March 24, 2017, Jane received the gift of new lungs at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. That gift greatly improved her quality of life for more than 5 years.
Funeral service will be held at Grandview Christian Church, 185 Table Rock Road, Beaver, WV 25813, on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Jordan Legg officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, WV.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the University of Virginia Lung Transplant Team, Hospice of Southern West Virginia, as well as the ladies of the Grandview Christian Church, Marcie Price and Norma Reedy for the many meals provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia or the Christian Women’s Fellowship (please note CWF in the memo).
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
