James Daniel Simmons

James Daniel “Danny” Simmons, 81, of White Oak, WV, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Bowers Hospice House. He was born in Christiansburg, VA on March 7, 1942, the beloved second son of James and Claudene Cole Simmons. Danny was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Sheri James, his brother Buddy Simmons, and his sister Betty Lou Watson.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 52 years, Kathy; his sons Jay and John (Tess) Simmons. Also surviving him are his grandsons Josh (Jo-Ellen) Reed and Christopher Reed; great-grandson Kameron; sister, Patsy Richmond (James) and brother, David Simmons. Danny also leaves behind many dear cousins, loved ones, and his faithful cat Melissa. Family meant everything to him.

Deeply rooted in his faith as a redeemed Baptist, Danny was a respected member of the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout his life, he worked tirelessly as a retired heavy equipment operator. For an impressive 45 years, he proudly served as a member of Operating Engineers Local 132. Additionally, Danny was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after faithfully serving his country with great pride. He was remarkably hardworking from a young age of 12.

The family would like to thank all the medical personnel and caregivers, especially Kim.

A service celebrating Danny’s life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at White Oak Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor David Nichols officiating. Following the service there will be a dinner in remembrance of Danny.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in Danny’s name to either Bowers Hospice House or a veterans group.

Let us all take this moment to appreciate our loved ones while we still can because time is not promised.
