James (Jimmy) Curtis Handy, Sr., 87 of Hinton, WV, formerly of Helen, WV went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 5, 2021, at rest at his home surrounded by those he loved.
Born November 20, 1934 in Lego, WV, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Altie Farley HHandy.
He graduated from Stoco High School in Coal City, WV in 1954. He retired after 43 years from A&P and H&L Supermarkets, S. oakwood Ave, Beckley, WV. He was a shuttle driver for Appalachian BackCounty Expeditions, Inc., the family fishing guide business, a member of the Mullens Masonic Lodge #151. He was a long-time member of the Helen Missionary Baptist Church, Helen, WV. He enjoyed volunteering at local church food banks, fishing, gardening, working in his yard and spending time with his family and friends.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann Handy; sister, Zelda Brewster of Ghent, WV; sons, James (Jamie) Handy, Jr. and Bill D. Handy (Rebecca) of Daniels, WV; grandchildren, Tara Rubin, Scott Handy, Thomas Handy, and great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Fiona, Sava, Leo, Zed and Athena.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Bowers officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service.
