James Floyd Brooks, 76 of Tupelo, Mississippi, passed away on Friday May 5, 2023, at the Bowers Hospice House. Born August 23, 1946, in Pemberton, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Marquis Brooks Sr. and Burnice Utt Brooks.
James (Jim) grew up in Pemberton and joined the US Army at an early
age, serving in the Vietnam War. After the military, Jim spent his life as
a coal miner in West Virginia and Alabama. He later worked as a cable contractor in the Southeast. Jim loved his boys and enjoyed his grandkids. Every time Jim came home to West Virginia a trip to the Hinton Dairy Queen, and Sandstone Falls was a must.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and baby sister Robin Elaine Brooks.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, son, James Brooks and wife Lana of Tampa, FL; son, Gary Brooks and wife Brittany of Fayetteville, WV; Stepson, Bob Frost, and wife Kelly of Beckley, WV; His one and only Grandson, Marquis Brooks of Tampa, FL, and five beautiful granddaughters, Scarlett, Sophia, Madeline, and Jasmine Brooks of Tampa, Fl; and Holden Brooks of Fayetteville, WV.
His siblings; brother, Marquis Brooks Jr and Barbara of Beaver, WV; brother, Michael Brooks and Catheline of Killen, Alabama; sister, Karen Smith and Mike Hatcher of Glen Morgan, WV; sister, Penny Jones and Alvin of Crab Orchard, WV; many nieces and nephews, and his wife, and friend Paulette Whitt of Pontotoc, MS.
A celebration of life will be held at the Maxwell Hill Community Center, 714 Maxwell Hill Road, Beckley, WV, on Thursday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
