Jackie Dean Bowens, 64, of Helen, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in Charlottesville, VA. Born December 19, 1954 he was the son of the late Marion and Norma Cook.
Besides his parents Jackie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Homer and Etta Cook and Effie Stevens; brothers, Skip and Aaron Bowens; sister, Pam Bowens; mother and father-in-law, Elbert and Edna Wall and nephew Trevor Mills.
Jackie was a coal miner for many years. He was a member of the International Bow Organization, avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and spending time at the river but cherished the times he spent with his great granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Ann Bowens of Helen; daughter, Jenny Bolen and her husband Billy of Helen; son, Cody Bowens of Helen; granddaughter, Taylor Martin and her husband Jordan of Beckley; great granddaughters, Aubree and Alaina Martin of Beckley; brother, Gary Bowens of Byrdstown, TN; sisters, Rosetta Mills of Cottondale, AL and Angel Lester and her husband Kenny of Helen along with a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Following Jackie’s wishes he will be cremated with the family having a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Faith Community Church with Pastor Sarah Sweatte officiating. Friends may visit with family 1 hour prior to the service.
