Jack Edward Standifur was born in Robinette,WV on March 6, 1937. He was the son of the late Zack and Mabel Standifur. Jack grew up on Buffalo Creek and was a 1955 graduate of Man High School. He worked various jobs to put himself through school and in 1960 graduated from Concord College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
In 1960 he became an agent for the Internal Revenue Service where he worked as an investigator, an auditor and an instructor. He retired from the IRS in 1998. During his 38 years of service Jack formed many great relationships with his colleagues.
His work at the IRS was very dear to him, but his family was his greatest love. He married Jean Ann Morris on January 20, 1961. He was the loving father to Laura Zutaut (Bob) and Trish Standifur. Jack’s great pride and joy was his two grandchildren, Megan and Michael Zutaut. He was so proud of his family and was their number on cheerleader.
Jack was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he was and Elder and a Sunday School teacher. He was a former member of the Lions Club. Before his health interfered he enjoyed golfing and fishing outings with his friends.
Jack will be missed by many friends and his family. In addition to his wife, children, son-in-law and grandchildren, Jack leaves behind a brother, Don Standifur (Lou) of Accoville, WV, a sister, Jan Bryan (Jim) of Ranson, WV, his mother-in-law, Clara Morris of Summersville,WV and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held today at the First Christian Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Donald Snyder officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the First Christian Church at 119 S. Fayette Street, Beckley, WV 25801.
Pallbearers will be Bob & Michael Zutaut, L.G. Shea, Joe and Cody Wickline, Ed Crouse, Johnny Childers, Don Aultz.
